These weren't guided tours, just students going over to pay their respects to the founder. We also went on to Ash Lawn the same day. Somehow, both years, when I went it was raining. About 40 years later, I took my husband. Raining that day also. The grounds of both places are beautiful even in the rain.
Do I remember correctly. Jefferson's library became part of the nucleus of the Library of Congress?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15551274264418341175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5621956686414889979.post-66047221217746838022011-09-23T00:23:02.772-04:002011-09-23T00:23:02.772-04:00I've never been to Monticello, but your pictur...I've never been to Monticello, but your pictures and commentary made me feel like I was traveling along with you. Jefferson was such an interesting and accomplished man, wasn't he? Glad you and your mom had fun even though you weren't feeling well!Shelley Bishophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07488453243236670013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5621956686414889979.post-34012405815772634472011-09-22T10:56:29.758-04:002011-09-22T10:56:29.758-04:00This was a really interesting post Liz, especially...This was a really interesting post Liz, especially since I just watched a movie about Jefferson last week. I was at Monticello back in the early 70s with a friend of mine but have not been back in all this time. I think it's neat they are doing the digs and that they will add on the replica buildings one day.Lisa Wallen Logsdonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13003873811444854964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5621956686414889979.post-92119244706809348572011-09-22T06:53:53.710-04:002011-09-22T06:53:53.710-04:00The mountains you speak of, that is what I miss mo...The mountains you speak of, that is what I miss most about Maryland and Virginia. They are green, gentler rolling hills than are in NH. I don't find the granite mountains as pretty.

Was there a keeping room in the house or Tavern?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5621956686414889979.post-66146737944241027252011-09-21T23:28:13.446-04:002011-09-21T23:28:13.446-04:00The gardens of Monticello look really great! The dice game and dancing sounds cool too. You two will have to show me when you get back :-) I'll expect a full report and demonstration!Ginger Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17453442334718861407noreply@blogger.com
